Earl Francis Newsome

Earl Francis Newsome, 93

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Earl Francis Newsome, of Chestertown, died Friday, April 4, 2008, at Chester River Manor, Chestertown. He was 93.

Mr. Newsome was born June 23, 1914, in Queen Anne's County, son of the late Lewis Newsome and Margaret Walker Newsome. He was one of 13 children.

He began working at a young age for Great Oak Farm in Chestertown and then worked as a painter for Edgar Lipscomb and Charley Porter in Chestertown.

Mr. Newsome married Mae Jacob Kendall of Rock Hall. Together they lived in Rock Hall, at which time Mr. Newsome went to work for the State Highway Administration in the maintenance department. He retired from the State Highway Administration in 1976.

After his wife's death, he moved to Lambs Meadow Road in Chestertown.

Mr. Newsome was an active member in I.U. Church for several years.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and dancing.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Newsome was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Jacob Newsome; one sister, Mary Ann Nicholson; and 11 brothers, M. Edward Newsome, Frank S. Newsome, Lewis Newsome, Arthur Newsome, George Newsome, Walter Newsome, Harry Newsome, William Newsome, Clarence Newsome, Albert Newsome and Louis Newsome.

He is survived by one sister-in-law, Ann Newsome of Worton; one brother-in-law, Edward Nicholson of Betterton; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Services will be noon Tuesday at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, where friends may call one hour prior.

Interment will be held in Chester Cemetery.

Officiating will be the Rev. James Edwin Pippin.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to Chester Cemetery, P.O. Box 164, Chestertown, MD 21620; or a charity of choice.
