DOVER - Duane Allen Bloom passed away on Feb. 16, 2015 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Del. He was born October 14, 1934 in Ripon, WI, the son of the late F.M. and Ida Bloom. He graduated from Harrington High School in 1953 and then served his country with honor in the Delaware National Guard for eight years. Duane went on to work for the Delaware Highway Department for two years and subsequently enrolled and graduated from the University of Delaware in 1959 with a B.S. degree. Mr. Bloom then worked and retired as a Supervisor for Johnson Controls of Middletown, Del. after 29 years of service. Duane was a member of the Calvary Assembly of God of Dover, where he was active with the Keenagers and Hope Keepers and he liked hunting, fishing, crabbing and clamming. He also enjoyed working in his vegetable and flower gardens. But most of all, he cherished his time spent with his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his half brother, Albert Bloom; and his daughter, Deborah Pizarro. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Janice; his daughters, Amy Carroll and her husband Adam, and their sons, Benton and Wesley, all of South Carolina, and Michele Donze, her husband Howard, Deidre Gleason, her husband Bill, his son-in-law, German Pizarro, his wife Sandra, all of Smyrna; his cousins, Gary and Elaine Burlingame of Milford, Del.; his brother-in-law, Ron Ridgway and his wife Judy of Middletown, Del.; ten grandchildren, Jenny, Howard, Michael, David, Thomas, Philip, Renee, Heather, German, Jr. and Erica; and 12 great-grandchildren, Lizvette, Billy, Carmen, Ziya, Dwight, Makayla, Chelsea, Wayne, Zachary, Blake, Kylee and German, III. A viewing will be held on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015 from 11 am to 12 noon in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main St. in Smyrna, Del. Funeral Services will begin at 12 noon. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery in Harrington, Del. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Hwy., Dover, Del. 19904.
