On Nov. 8, the John J. Williams Conference Center and Museum had its grand opening. The family home of U.S. Sen. John J. Williams and his wife, Elsie Williams, is now a museum and conference center on State Street in Millsboro.
I was astonished to hear the great history behind Sen. Williams, who served in Washington from 1947-70. He was so often called the “Conscience of the Senate” and a maverick for small business. Many in attendance shared warm stories of the senator and his wife, along with their remarkable achievements.
This is a true testament of the legacy and distinguished heritage that Millsboro has, and I hope that, when the museum opens to the public, all will take a moment to appreciate how the Williams family has contributed to not just Millsboro but Sussex County and the state of Delaware as a whole.
Learning something new every day is a privilege, and I, for one, am elated to have such great history in my backyard. Many of us travel John J. Willams Highway without knowledge of his footprint on our state.
