Drexel Clifford Coverdale, 88

FREDERICA - Drexel Clifford Coverdale, of Frederica, passed away on Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 88. Mr. Coverdale was born the son of the late Clifford and Eva (Stevens ) Coverdale. Mr. Coverdale worked as a truck driver for Burris Foods for 33 years retiring in 1975. Mr. Coverdale attended the Trinity United Methodist Church in Frederica. He was a life member of A.T.A. Trap Shooting Assoc. He was an avid hunter, and enjoyed traveling and camping. Most of all he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. In addition to both parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Coverdale; and two sisters, Jane Coverdale and Virginia Glanden. Mr. Coverdale is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Ethel May (Holleger ) Coverdale; a son, Ronald D. Coverdale and wife Theresa of Millsboro; and a daughter, Carole C. Stump and husband Robert of Dover; three grandchildren, Eric Coverdale, Kenneth Coverdale and wife Dawn, and Lindsey Levis and husband Benjamin; three great-grandchildren, Jacob Coverdale, Garrett Coverdale, and Lee Levis; brother, Delbert James Coverdale and wife Martha of Milford; and sister, Dorothy Stubbs of Milford. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 16, in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 N.W. Front St., Milford, where friends may call after noon. Burial will be in Barrett's Chapel Cemetery, Frederica. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. Dupont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901; or to Trinity U.M. Church, P.O. Box 4, Frederica, DE 19946.
