Dr. John James Lavelle, 82 WILMINGTON - Dr. John James Lavelle, age 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 3, 2010, after a brief illness. He was born in Philadelphia, Pa., to John and Delores Lavelle and raised in Wilmington. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Lynch Lavelle; and seven children and 12 grandchildren, Stewart (Lauri) Lavelle of Sarasota, Fla., and their children Cristin (Justin) and Kevin; David (MaryBeth) Lavelle of Kennett Square; Mary Cairns of Kennett Square and her children Ian (Melissa) and Lindsay (Brent); Anne (Frank) Davolos of Wilmington and their children Megan, Michael and Caitlin; Philip (Linda) Lavelle of Wilmington and son Christopher; John Lavelle of Elverson, Pa., and his children Emma and Anna; and Gregory (Ruth) Lavelle of Wilmington and their children Kylie and Matthew. Having graduated from Salesianum, LaSalle College and University of Maryland School of Dentistry, Jack completed postgraduate studies in pediatric dentistry at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. For 3 years, he served in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps served a Lieutenant (jg). He was a member of the American Dental Association, Delaware State Dental Society and served as President in 1969, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American College of Dentistry, International College of Dentistry, Academy of Dentistry for the Handicapped, the Delaware Society of Dentistry for Children and served as President in 1964. Jack was committed to, and loved, his patients and was planning his retirement after 58 years in practice. Betty and Jack loved to travel as well as spending time in Avalon. He was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, the Marble Club, and Academy of Life Long Learning. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m., on Friday July 9, 2010, at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. Friends may visit with the family Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church. Interment will be held in St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery, 10 Old Church Road, Greenville.
