Dover's Little, Jr. named state Player of the Year by Gatorade
DOVER — Dorell Little, Jr. has added another honor to his basketball resume.
The Dover High senior was named the State Player of the Year in boys’ basketball by Gatorade, it was announced today.
Little, who helped lead the Senators to a 23-2 record and their first DIAA state championship, is the fourth player from Dover to receive the award.
A 6-foot-5 guard, Little averaged 19.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. He collected 31 points and nine rebounds in Dover’s 56-53 win over Salesianum in the state finals.
Little was also named first-team All-State and played in the Blue-Gold All-Star Game.
Little has volunteered locally on behalf of Blue Gold Best Buddies of Delaware and is a member of his local chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
“He really scores the ball,” William Penn coach Gary Lumpkin said in a Gatortade press release. “He was everything for Dover. He gets buckets, is solid on both ends of the floor and is a key leader for their team.”
Little has maintained a B average in the classroom. He remains undecided on his college choice.
Little joins recent Gatorade Delaware Boys Basketball Players of the Year Dean Shepherd (2022-23, Tower Hill), Justin Molen (2021-22, Salesianum), Nnanna Njoku (2020-21, Sanford) and Elijah Allen (2019-20, Dover), among the state’s list of former award winners.
