DOVER — A 23-year-old Dover man was seriously injured when shot in the head by an unknown suspect at the Best Western Inn Tuesday, authorities said.

Delaware State Police spokeswoman Sgt. India Sturgis said that at approximately 11:59 p.m., troopers were dispatched to the inn at 1700 East Lebanon Road for a reported shooting. When troopers arrived, they observed the wounded man. He was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, police said.

According to Sgt. Sturgis, a preliminary investigation revealed that the victim entered the suspect’s vehicle to purchase marijuana. During the exchange, the victim was shot by an unidentified male, police said.

The suspect vehicle fled the scene and is believed to be a white Toyota Camry with damage to the passenger side, between the front and rear door, police said.

At this time, police said, there is no additional information regarding the suspect.
