Arrest made in deadly Dover shooting

DOVER — A 29-year-old Dover man died from injuries suffered in a shooting Saturday, and an arrest was made Sunday.

According to Dover police spokesman Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid, officers were called to a shooting at New Castle Avenue and East Water Street around 4:22 p.m. They located Jonair Pollard, who had sustained a gunshot wound to his upper body, authorities said.

Mr. Pollard was transported to Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus in Dover, where he was pronounced dead.

Cpl. Schmid said William Mills, 59, of Dover, was arrested Sunday in connection with the incident.

Mr. Mills was charged with first-degree murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on $250,000 cash bail.
