DOVER - A 23-year-old Dover man was charged with weapon-related offenses after an incident Wednesday, Dover Police said.
Spokesperson Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid said investigation began at 8:31 p.m., when police and Delaware Probation and Parole were in the 400 Block of Barrister Place assisting with a shooting complaint that had occurred earlier in the evening.
While on scene, police said, officers attempted to detain John Lassiter at which point he ran away from them. After a brief foot chase, he was taken into custody in the 500 block of Roberta Avenue.
An administrative search of Mr. Lassiter’s vehicle followed, police said, and a loaded Berretta Pico .380 handgun, concealed under the driver’s seat.
Police said initial investigation indicates that this firearm is not related to the earlier shooting that occurred on Barrister Place.
Police said Mr. Lassiter was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a violation of probation and released on $15,500 unsecured bail on charges of possession of a firearm/ammunition by person prohibited (two counts), carrying a concealed deadly weapon and resisting arrest.
