DOVER — A 25-year-old Dover man was arrested following a shooting incident involving a 3-year-old child that left one man injured Thursday, Delaware State Police said.
Authorities said that at approximately 8:37 p.m., troopers responded to a residence on the 300 block of David Hall Road for a report of a shooting. When troopers arrived, they found a 45-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm, police said. He was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Cody Toomey and the victim were working on a vehicle in the driveway when Mr. Toomey placed an unsecured gun on the front steps of the house, authorities said. A 3-year-old family member found the gun and fired a shot, hitting the victim, police said.
Mr. Toomey was arrested and charged with first-degree reckless endangering (two counts) He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $6,000 secured bond.
