DOVER — Two Dover males, ages 17 and 15, face weapon charges following the attempted theft of a vehicle Wednesday, Dover police said.

Spokesman Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid said the investigation began at 2:42 a.m. at White Oak and Spruance roads, when officers received a report that a vehicle’s alarm was sounding and it appeared damaged. They observed the two suspects dressed in dark clothing exiting the backyard of a nearby residence and entering an Uber, police said.

The officers stopped the Uber to contact the juveniles, but they ran from the scene, Cpl. Schmid said.

Both males were taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit. Upon a search of the area, police located two handguns, one of which had been reported stolen. The teens were also found with tools commonly used to facilitate vehicle thefts, police said.

The juveniles were charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, resisting arrest, criminal mischief, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, possession of burglars’ tools and third-degree conspiracy. The 17-year-old was additionally charged with receiving a stolen firearm.

Bond information was not available Wednesday, Cpl. Schmid said.
