Dover City Council: New comptroller Marney welcomed

Posted

Congratulations to Patricia Marney, Dover’s new comptroller/treasurer. The citizens of Dover are favored with an extraordinary individual who is highly qualified and completely dedicated to them and the city. Patricia Marney is a prime example of a citizen servant leader. She brings decades of experience from private-sector finance and in academic instruction, and 10 years of exemplary service with the city of Dover Customer Services department.

In her time as interim comptroller/treasurer, she hit the ground running. She has been timely with her reports; handled complicated outstanding issues, including pension reform and utility changes; and has done well reorganizing and staffing her office with quality people. Few individuals could have achieved this level of success so quickly because of the learning curve with this position.

City Council members took their time filling this position because we had a competent interim person. We were able to both observe her and look broadly for the right match in the most transparent process in memory. We came to an overwhelming decision that she is the best person to safeguard the people’s financial interest. The citizens of Dover should have the same confidence as we do. We hope everyone extends goodwill to her.
