Wintry weather gives students a day off

DOVER — All Capital School District schools and offices will be closed tomorrow, Jan. 26, due to inclement weather. There will be no in-person or virtual instruction.
 
The district said it will continue to closely monitor the situation and will provide an update on Jan. 26  regarding school operations for Jan. 27.
 
Transportation and Buildings and Grounds staff will receive further instructions directly from their supervisors.
 
The Caesar Rodney School District will also be closed on Jan. 26 due to the winter storm for a traditional snow day.
 
Cape Henlopen School District to close

LEWES — The Cape Henlopen school district will be closed tomorrow, Jan. 26, due to weather conditions. 

Superintendent Jenny Nauman said inclement weather and freezing conditions overnight led to potentially unsafe road conditions in the morning.

Potentially dangerous travel conditions forced the district to close, she said. 

Milford, Lake Forest schools also to close

MILFORD AND FELTON  — Both Milford and Lake Forest school districts will be closed Jan. 26.

“Due to current weather conditions, the Milford School District will be closed for all students and non-essential employees tomorrow, Jan. 26,” district officials said in a Jan. 25 Facebook post. “All non-essential employees should reference the District’s School Closure Outline for further instructions. All essential employees should report as directed.”

The Milford Board of Education meeting scheduled for Jan. 26 also has been canceled, they said.

All Lake Forest School District schools and offices will be closed Jan. 26, officials said on Facebook.

Appoquinimink, Smyrna, Indian River announce closures

Appoquinimink, Indian River and Smyrna schools will be closed Jan. 26.

On Facebook, the Appoquinimink School District noted that, in part, "As we have shared in our district weather guidelines – the first snow day of the year will result in the cancellation of classes.

"You can find the district weather guidelines on the homepage of our (apposchooldistrict.com) website."

The Smyrna School District said on Facebook, "Please stay safe and warm as snow, sleet, and frigid temperatures are expected throughout the day.

"Students, enjoy the day but be extra cautious with icy conditions."

Indian River high school student exams will begin the next in-person school day for students, according to the district.

The Board of Education meeting  Jan. 26 will be held virtually. Details will be shared in the morning on the district's irsd.net website.

Sussex Tech on remote schedule Jan. 26

Sussex Tech High School will operate on a remote schedule, Jan. 26. Students should log into class on Schoology and Zoom.

Sussex Tech’s Adult Education classes on Jan. 26 will be held via Zoom, except for ESL classes, which are cancelled. All other students will receive a Zoom link from their instructor.

Other closures

The Woodbridge School District will be closed for students and 10-month staff, Jan. 26. All 12-month staff should check their email for guidance.

School in the Laurel School District is closed Jan. 26. This will be a traditional snow day for students.

Sussex Academy is closed Jan. 26. This will count as the second of three inclement weather days built into the calendar and there will be no remote learning activities.

Due to the winter storm and expected overnight conditions, Delmar Middle and Senior High School will be closed Jan. 26 for all students and staff.

Professional development day in Seaford

There is no school for students on Jan. 26 in the Seaford School District as Jan. 26 is scheduled as a professional development day.

Indian River board meeting now virtual

The Indian River School District board of education meeting on Jan. 26 will be held virtually. Links to the live stream will be posted on the district website that  morning.
