Douglas Earl Melott

MILTON - Douglas Earl Melott, 74, of Milton, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010 after a long battle with cancer. Doug was born in Tennessee on Sept. 1, 1935, but had resided in Delaware since 1945. Doug was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a well known masonry contractor. He was involved in Lewes Little League and coached Pop Warner football. He enjoyed sports and was crafted in arts. Doug was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Diana; his parents, Gladys and Raymond; his son, Taylor; and his nephew, Wayne Howeth. Doug is survived by his daughter, Tammy Pedrick (Eddie); son, Troy Melott (Candi); sister, Eleanor Hochstedler (Robert); niece, Diane Hetherton; sister, Yvonne Howeth (Harry), niece, Deny Howeth; four grandchildren, Casey and Carli Pedrick, Nicholas and Madison Melott; great grandson, Zane Lawson. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Gail Shinn (Jimmy); niece, Jamie Pruitt; nephews, Chuck and Jay Shinn; his Godchildren, Michael McCarty and Lisa Faust; and his two "second" daughters, Gail Ingram-Smith and Allison Howe. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 10th, at 1 p.m., at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where friends may call after noon. Burial will be private. Following the service, a celebration of his life will be held at the Pedrick's home at 30331 Green Valley Run, Overbrook Shores, Milton. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Doug's memory to, American Cancer Society, Sussex County Unit, P.O. Box 163, Salisbury, MD. 21805, or Lewes Little League Assoc, P.O.
