Dorothy Mildred Cubbage

Dorothy Mildred Cubbage, 87 DOVER - Dorothy Mildred Cubbage, daughter of the late Lorenzo Shockley and the late Sarah Anna Lofland departed this life on Sunday, April 25, 2010, at the Silver Lake Nursing Home in Dover. She was 87. Mrs. Cubbage was born Feb. 23, 1923, in Lincoln. She was educated in the Milford, DE Public School system. Mrs. Cubbage moved to Dover, where she met and married the late Joseph Cubbage, Sr.; from this union they had five children. Before her illness, Dorothy was employed by the Dover Educational Community Center as a foster grand-parent. Mother Cubbage as she was affectionately known by many was a faithful member of the Union Missionary Baptist Church. She served on the Mother's Board for many years and most recently served as the head mother of the church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cubbage was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Cubbage, Sr.; four sisters, Jean, Clara, Margaret and Ann; two sons, Delbert and Norman Henry; and two grandsons, Rodney Johnson and Devon Walker. She leaves to mourn her loss, six children, Roger Henry of Lincoln, Sarah (Doug) Cubbage, Thomas (Peg) Cubbage, Joseph (Lanka) Cubbage, Phillip (Lavern) Cubbage, and Evelyn Cubbage, all of Dover; three sisters, Louella Baines of Ellendale, Marion (Ervin) Whittington of Philadelphia, and Lorraine (Jim) Williams of Upper Darby, Pa.; daughter-in-law, Betty Henry of Smyrna; a special daughter, Shirley Perry; three longtime friends, Louise Griffin, Ardela Bryan, and Catherine Slade, all of Dover; Godson, James Blackwell; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, April 30, 2010, at Union Baptist Church, 883 Lincoln Street, Dover. Services will be noon, Saturday, at Union Baptist Church where friends may view one hour prior. Burial will be in Sharon Hill Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to benniesmithfuneralhome.com.
