Dorothy Mae Rooney

Dorothy Mae Rooney MILFORD - Dorothy Mae Rooney, of Milford, went with the angels on Dec. 23, 2009, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. She was 76. Dorothy was born in Marcus Hook, Pa., on Aug. 25, 1933, to John and Edith McKee. She and her family moved to Slaughter Beach, where she graduated from Milford High School. She worked in a sewing factory in Milford and also did private nursing duty for 8 years at the Methodist Manor House. Dorothy enjoyed many hobbies including baking, sewing, traveling, dancing and her favorite, the slots. She was also a member of the Red Hatters, where she had many friends. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 26 years, Frank Rooney; a brother. Wayne McKee; and a sister, Shirley Jones. She is survived by two sons, Ormond A. (Butch) Porter Jr. and wife Catherine of Milford, and Wayne Porter and wife Terrie of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and one daughter, Debra A. Elliott and husband Ronnie of Greenwood. She will be greatly missed by her four grandsons, Ronnie Elliott and wife Amy, Michael Elliott, Zachariah Porter and wife Christie, and Shayne Porter; and her newest joy her great-grandson, Aidan Joseph Elliott; two brothers, Patrick McKee of Marcus Hook, Pa., and Raymond McKee and wife Elma of Milford; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial service was Wednesday, Jan. 13, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963. Arrangements were by Fleischauer Funeral Home, of Greenwood.
