Dorothy Elizabeth
(Wagner) Mettenbrink, 77
MAGNOLIA, DE - Dorothy Elizabeth (Wagner) Mettenbrink passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2022, in her home surrounded by her loved ones.
Dottie was born in Salisbury, MD on December 7, 1944, and was the daughter of the late Carlton L. and Miriam (Zeallor) Jones. She was a 1963 graduate of Caesar Rodney High School.
Dottie began her career working for Sears in the credit department, she worked for Jim Barnett and John Still Insurance, but spent much of her career working for Wyoming Concrete and A.C. Moore, respectively, prior to retiring in 2020. She was a Denver Broncos fan and could be found watching their games every season, win or lose. Dottie enjoyed painting, scrapbooking, and making various crafts with her grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her family at holidays, birthdays, and special occasions. In her younger years, Dottie could be found either in the water, skiing with a group in the early 1960's called the Sea Bees who performed tricks like those at Cypress Garden in Florida, or at the Delmar Speedway racing stock cars. In her forties, she loved her 1978 Chevy Corvette and, in her seventies, her 2016 Ford Mustang which she affectionately named "Short Stak."
Dottie was always available to listen, and gave her advice and wisdom on all matters, whether you liked what she had to say or not. She was a wise woman who gave her everything in all that she did in life. She was a proud mother and grandmother and loved her family deeply and they loved her just as much. She will be missed by all those lucky enough to have been a part of her life.
Dottie was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband, Roger L. Mettenbrink, whom she married on June 10, 1993; her daughter, Kimberly Dawn (Mark) Wolford of Coeburn, VA; her son, SanDell (Jessica) Luff of Dover, DE; her stepdaughter, Kelley Mettenbrink of White Marsh, VA; and her stepson, Michael (Christine) Mettenbrink of Haughton, LA; as well as her sister, Carlene (Bill) Campbell of Laurel, DE.
Dottie was affectionately known by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as Nana or Nan, and she loved each of them dearly. Her grandchildren are Keni Kohler, Tabitha Wolford, Taylor-Lynn Luff, Sebastian Wolford, Alexis Luff, SanDell Caleb Luff, Chase Mettenbrink, and Paige Mettenbrink. Her great grandsons are Landon, Leihum and Bayani Kohler and Joseph and Emery Himmler. In addition, she is survived by her niece, Megan (Chris) DeMillo and their daughter Luna; nephew, Jonathan (Alesia) Campbell; as well as her best friend, Dottie (Dan) Anderson.
A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, September 23, 2022, at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd., Dover, DE. As Dottie's favorite color was red, the family would like to welcome those attending to wear their favorite shade of red.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or your local SPCA.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to Delaware Hospice for the care they provided.
