Doris Jean Hindt, 74

DOWNS CHAPEL - Doris Jean Hindt, of Downs Chapel, passed away on Friday May 8, 2009, at her home with her family by her side. She was 74. She was the daughter of the late Margaret Gardner Hardy and the late William Edward Gardner. She was a country music entertainer singing with many bands for over 30 years in the tri-state area. She was a devoted wife and mother. One of her proudest accomplishments was attending college at Delaware Tech. She loved roses, sunsets, music, and NASCAR. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Danny Lee Hindt, and W. Brian Hindt; and a brother, Wayne Gardner. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, James D. Hindt Sr.; two sons, James D. Hindt Jr. of Smyrna, and Michael D. Hindt and his wife Tracy of Clayton; seven grandchildren, Brittany, Bridgette, Kaila, Jessica, Brian M., and Daniel Lee Hindt, and Dana Lynn Carey; two sisters, Darlene Welzel of Clayton, and Sheri Doughty of Smyrna; two brothers, Melvin Gardner of Smyrna, and David Gardner of Hartly; and her best friend and cousin, Patsy Sullivan of Clayton. Services will be 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 12 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.
