Doris G. Zimmerman, 86

LEIPSIC - Doris G. Zimmerman, 86, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Courtland Manor Nursing Home, Dover. She was born on May 1, 1923, in Brooklyn, New York City, N.Y., to the late John and Florence Harmon Johnson. She worked for Chemical National Bank of New York City. In 1947 she moved with her husband and daughter to Dover to work on the family farm. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church Dover and a former member of the Kent General Hospital Junior Board. She was a troop leader for Girl Scouts, troop #99, long time member of Leipsic Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Aux. and was auxiliary secretary for many years. She fully enjoyed spending time at the family get together's, being with her great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Christian E. Zimmerman; and sister and brother-in-law, Virginia R. Dandrade and Thomas Dandrade. She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Flo and Russ Burrows of Leipsic; grandson and his wife, Bobby and Julie Brooks of Frederica; great-grandchildren, Amanda, Sara, and Wade Christian Brooks, all of Frederica; like a son to her, Bobby Burrows of Leipic; two life time friends, Lou and Warren Diaz of California and Margie Ridgway of Long Island, N.Y.; and a host of nieces and nephews. Remembrance services will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 29, at Trader Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday, and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 28. Burial will be at the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Leipsic Vol. Fire Co. Ladies Aux., 53 Texas Lane, Dover, DE 19901; Christ Episcopal Church, State and Water streets, Dover, or the Kent County S.P.C.A. The family would like to thank all the staff at Courtland Manor and Compassionate Care Hospice for their dedicated care during her stay.
