Donald Reed Dickinson, 79

Donald Reed Dickinson, fondly known as "Donnie," passed away on August 9, 2025. Born on October 2, 1945, in Wilmington, Delaware, to Olive Virginia Reed and Benjamin Dickinson, Donnie grew up in Dover, Delaware, where he graduated from Dover High School in 1963.
At just 17, Donnie began a life of service, enlisting in the United States Navy alongside his brother Ben. He served proudly for three years aboard the USS Northampton CC-1, the Presidential Command Ship. After returning home, he worked briefly for the United States Postal Service before beginning a 43-year career at Dover Air Force Base, where he retired as Supervisor of the Boiler Plant.
Donnie's life was rich with passions. He loved country music, cheered faithfully for the Phillies and the Eagles, and enjoyed traveling across the country and spending time at the beach. An avid runner and golfer, he lived an active and adventurous life. Above all, Donnie cherished his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 37 years, Barbara Dickinson; a loving stepfather to Vicki Leone, Duke and Nicole Hutchison; and a proud, dedicated grandfather to Nicklaus Leone and Courtney Morris. His bond with his brothers Ben and Jimmy, as well as his nieces, nephews, and their children, was deep and enduring.
Donnie will be remembered for his loyalty, warmth, and the joy he brought to all who knew him.
His laughter, stories, and steadfast love will be greatly missed but forever treasured.
A memorial service will be held 12:00pm on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E Lebanon Rd., Dover, DE. The visitation will begin at 11:00am.
