Donald Melvin Seeney

Donald Melvin Seeney, 76 DOVER - Donald Melvin Seeney, known as "Unkie" or "Candy Man," of Dover, died Friday May 28, 2010, at Pinnacle Nursing Home. He was 76. Mr. Seeney was born May 12, 1934, in Dover, to the late Ernest Horace Seeney Sr. and Margaret Durham Seeney. He served in the United States Army. After the service he worked for 10 years as a truck driver for Slaughters Beverage before becoming disabled in 1965. He got his nickname "Candy Man" because he would hand out candy to children and would give $2 bills to newborns. Mr. Seeney was a member of Immanual Union United Methodist Church, Cheswold. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ernest H. "Buddy" Seeney Jr., Smith Seeney, and Brainard Seeney. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley Ann Seeney of Dover; two brothers, William Seeney of Dover, and Wilson Earl Seeney Sr. of Dover; five sisters, Marie Hand of Magnolia, Dorothy Mosley of Cheswold, Edith Ridgeway of Dover, Leanna Gwyn of Smyrna, and Margaret Joan Daniels of Dover; his godchildren, Kelly Church of Hartly, and Donald Attix Jr. of Dover; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Monday, May 31, 2010, at the Immanual U.U.M. Church, 756 Main Street, Cheswold. Friends may call two hours prior. Interment will be in the churchyard cemetery. Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
