MILFORD - Donald F. Kirby, 90, of Milford, died of heart failure, Sunday Oct. 9, 2011, at Bay Health Center, Dover. He is the son of the late Benjamin F. Kirby and Cora Volita Maloney Kirby. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vermadel Downs Kirby. Mr. Kirby was a Bond Bread Salesman for 20 years. He also worked for the State of Delaware at Killen's Pond State Park for 15 years as a Foreman and in Maintenance. He served in the Army Air Force during WW II, as a Staff Sergeant, flying on numerous bombing missions. He loved hunting, fishing, traveling, gardening, and carpentry. He was gifted and creative in having the ability to build and engineer many items. He was a man that gave of himself, to others, especially his family, without expecting back anything in return. He is survived by four children, daughter Joanne Read of Texas and three sons Benjamin F. of Georgia, William H. of Virginia, and John M. of Milford; four grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Thelma Portacales and her husband George and Evelyn Phillips and her husband Phil. Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at 11 a.m., in the Chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St. Milford, DE where friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. for a viewing. Interment will be Milford Community Cemetery, Milford.
