DMA’s Frost no-hits Dover, outduels Dowdy

Graceyn Frost pitched a no-hitter and struck out 16 as Delaware Military blanked Dover High, 1-0, in a non-conference softball matchup on Thursday afternoon.

It was the second no-hitter of the season for Frost, who has allowed just two hits and no runs in four games for the Seahawks (4-0).

For the Senators (1-6), it was their second-straight one-run loss and the third game they have lost by one run this season. Dover pitcher Lexi Dowdy threw a seven-hitter, allowing only a third-inning run to DMA.

Lake Forest 9, Seaford 3: Addyson Stewart’s grand slam sparked a six-run outburst in the top of the seventh for the Spartans (3-1).

Karly Cain had two hits, including a triple, while winning pitcher Skylar Cain held Seaford to one hit over the first four innings.

Hannah Moore had a pair of hits, including a two-run homer, for the Blue Jays.

Laurel 17, John Carroll, Md. 7: Winning pitcher Kylee Hill collected two of the Bulldogs’ five doubles in the non-conference win.

The Bulldogs (4-3) led 11-1 after the second inning as they snapped a three-game losing streak in a game played at Caravel.

Delmar 16, Woodbridge 0: Emma Czwalina pitched a five-inning two-hitter to earn the Henlopen South shutout for the Wildcats.

Camryn Wingate (3 hits, 3 runs), Autumn Booth (3 hits, 2 runs) and Ashlyn Tatman (2 hits, 3 runs, 3 RBI) for Delmar, which finished with 14 hits.

Parker Keeler and Taylor Scott each had a hit for the Blue Raiders.

Baseball

Cape Henlopen 13, Lake Forest 3: The Vikings scored at least one run in all five innings before improving to 5-0.

Justin Marsh (3-for-3, double, 3 RBI), Gage Joseph (3-for-3, 3 runs, two-run homer), Hunter Rauch (double, triple, 2 runs) paced Cape’s 12-hit attack.

Winning pitcher Josh Reinhold pitched 4 2/3 no-hit innings with eight strikeouts.

Tristian McCray hit a two-run single for Lake Forest.

Milford 10, Laurel 0: Alex Mergner tossed a three-hitter and struck out 10 in five innings for the Buccaneers.

Mitch Leighty and Sam Sickles (2 RBI) each had two hits with Shawn Saxon adding a pair of RBI for Milford (5-1), which won its fifth game in a row.

Damin Smith doubled for Laurel.

St. Mark’s 11, Indian River 0: Leading 5-0, the Spartans broke open the non-conference contest with a six-run fourth inning.

Christian Colmery, a Delaware commit, pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts to earn the win for St. Mark’s (6-0).

Ben Cordrey had a single for the Indians (4-2).

Delaware Military 22, First State Military 0: Daniel Smith had the lone hit for the Bulldogs in the Diamond State Conference loss at Smyrna-Clayton Little League.

Boys’ lacrosse

Cape Henlopen 17, Appoquinimink 2: Henry D’Ambrogi netted four goals and seven assists as the Vikings evened their record at 2-2.

Nine players scored for Cape, which led 13-1 at halftime. Gabriel Best (3 goals, 1 assist) and Luke Burton (2 goals) were also multiple-goal scorers for the Vikings while Michael Sposato and Carson Kammerer combined for four saves.

College bowling

Hornets eliminated from NCAAs: North Carolina A&T won two of the three tourney formats to eliminate Delaware State on the second day of the NCAA regional championships on Thursday in Kansas City.

The No. 12 Hornets, who were making the program’s third appearance in the NCAAs, finished 1-2 in the double-elimination event. The Aggies, ranked No. 4 nationally and a top seed in the tourney, advance with a record of 2-1.

Delaware State had the upper hand in the match with a 979-913 victory in the traditional format game. Emily Garl posted a season-high 243 total pinfall, while Stefanny Toala was second on the team with 236.

Delaware State led North Carolina A&T by 62 pins (596-534) after three games in the Baker Total Pinfall contest, but the Aggies won game four 214-147 to gain the lead. NCA&T evened the match with a 203-189 victory in game five to win the contest by a final score of 951-932.

The match was then decided by the Baker System Match play contest.

The Hornets won the first three games by a combined score of 629-574, but NCA&T squeaked out a 198-195 victory in game four to again stay alive in the match.

The Aggies won games five and six by a combined score of 481-333 to even the contest, and coasted to a 214-146 victory in the decisive seventh game. NCA&T won in total pinfall 1479-1303.

College lacrosse

MEN, Neumann 14, Wesley 3: The Wolverines trailed only 4-3 after the first quarter before being shut out the rest of the way.

Derek Hallock (Dover), Joe Delgado (Caesar Rodney) and Kyle Mackall-Lloyd netted consecutive goals for Wesley (0-4) while Dylan Sicca made 20 saves.

College soccer

WOMEN, Immaculata 2, Wesley 1: The Wolverines fell to 3-3 after losing the program’s final scheduled game.
