Fifth-seeded Dover High pulled out a 9-7 victory over No. 4 St. Georges in the quarterfinals of the DIAA Class 3A football state tournament on Saturday afternoon.

The victory puts the Senators (7-4) in the state semifinals, where they will face top-seeded Smyrna (9-2) at a time and site TBA. The Henlopen North rival Eagles downed Dover, 34-13, on Oct. 22 during the regular season.

Dover’s win was second over the Hawks (7-4) this season. The Senators also won at St. Georges, 21-14, on Sept. 18.

In other state quarterfinal games on Saturday, Delmar was edged by Wilmington Friends, 21-20, in overtime in Class 2A while Seaford fell to Tatnall, 15-12, in Class 1A.

Sussex Central and Salesianum play tonight in Wilmington in the one remaining Class 3A quarterfinal.

Among downstate schools, Smyrna, Woodbridge and Laurel all won their quarterfinal contests on Friday night.
