NEWARK — Delmarva Power announced Wednesday it is now offering grants to municipalities, recreational authorities, and nonprofit organizations for projects that focus on environmental conservation.

The company launched the Sustainable Communities Grant Program in 2020 and provides $75,000 a year in grants to fund open space preservation, improvements to parks and recreation resources, and environmental projects.

The program, facilitated by the Delaware Nature Society (DelNature) provides $50,000 in grants of up to $10,000 each for these projects which include the development of recreation trails, the purchase of open space and the planting of trees and other vegetation.

Municipalities, recreational authorities, and nonprofits can apply for a Sustainable Communities grant by the June 30 deadline. A committee consisting of Delmarva Power, DelNature and other local agencies is responsible for reviewing and approving each application.
