RIDGLEY, MD - Della M. Wood Lynch passed away surrounded by her sister JoAnn Hickman and nieces Louann Hickman and Lea Albright on March 20, 2024 at UMSMC. Born on January 14, 1941 at the Ridgley House, in Ridgley, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late John Wood and Ila Combs Wood.
Dell as she liked to be called grew up in Greensboro, Maryland. She was the last graduating class of Greensboro High School graduating in 1959. Also, she received her teaching degree from Salisbury State College in 1963. Dell taught 5th grade for Caroline County Schools mainly in Ridgely and Preston Elementary until her retirement in 1990. She was a member of the Historical Society, and a contributor of many organizations for the protection of animals. Dell had a passion for reading, westerns and history from an early age that followed her into adulthood.
Dell is survived by her sister, JoAnn Hickman (Clayton); nieces and nephews, Charles R. Wood, Linda Stevens, Gregory Wood (Linda), Denise Kowski, Louann Hickman, Susan DeMarco (Phillip), Lea Albright (Daniel) and Frederick Hickman (Crystal). She is also survived by many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; the love of her life and best friend, Francis "Buddy" Beaumont Lynch who she married on March 4, 1966; and siblings, Anna Lee Mills, Bonnie R. Feeney and Charles G. Wood.
The family will also like to thank the Homestead Manor staff for all the love and care she received during her time there.
A visitation will take place Thursday, March 28, from 6-8 at Fleegle & Helfenbein Funeral Home. And a service will be held Friday March 29, at 11:00 at Fleegle & Helfenbein Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Greensboro, Maryland.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Caroline County Humane Society in Ridgley, Maryland.
