Delbert J. Coverdale Sr.

MILFORD - Delbert J. Coverdale Sr., 79, of Milford, died at home, Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011. He was born Oct. 2, 1931, in Milford, the son of Clifford and Eva Stephens Coverdale. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, a twin sister, Delima Jane Coverdale and Virginia Gladen; two brothers, Lloyd Coverdale and Drexel Coverdale. Also, two sons, Delbert Coverdale, Jr. and Steven Coverdale, also by his grandson, William James Coverdale. Delbert served in the Air Force, as an Airman 1st Class, during the Korean War, as a tower operator. He worked for Burris Food for 20 years. He and his wife were Founders/Owners of the Coverdale Trucking for 25 years. He was a devoted Yankee Fan and enjoyed NASCAR; he also enjoyed Little League Umpiring for his grandsons. Trucking was his life. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Martha Wilson Coverdale; three sons and daughters-in-law, Clifford and Tara Coverdale, Michael and Cindy Coverdale, and Greg and Olinda Coverdale; 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Stubbs; sister-in-law. Ethel May Coverdale; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his family. Funeral Services will be 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, in the Chapel of Berry Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front Street, Milford, where friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interment will be Milford Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
