Delaware to face Pitt again on future schedule

NEWARK — Another big-time program from Delaware’s football past will be part of the Blue Hens’ future.

UD announced today that it will open the 2029 at Pittsburgh, a Power 5 program it has played twice before. The contest is slated for Sept. 1 at the Panthers’ Acrisure Stadium.

The matchup at Pitt is currently the third game on the 2029 schedule for Delaware. The Hens will host Buffalo on Sept. 15 at Delaware Stadium to begin a home-and-home series with the Bulls before traveling to Coastal Carolina on Sept.22 to wrap up a series with the Chanticleers.

Pitt went 3-9 last season with wins over Wofford and ACC-foes Louisville and Boston College. The Panthers are just a season removed from going 9-4 in 2022 with a 5-3 record and a 37-35 win over UCLA in the Sun Bowl.

Delaware and Pitt have met twice before with the Blue Hens falling to the Panthers in both 2014 and 2019. Delaware held a 14-10 fourth-quarter lead in 2019 behind touchdown passes from Nolan Henderson to both Gene Coleman II and Jourdan Townsend, but ultimately dropped a 17-14 decision.

In 2014, the Hens lost 62-0 at Pitt.

The 2029 contest will be UD’s third ACC opponent in five years after matching up with Wake Forest and Virginia in 2025 and 2026, respectively.
