Delaware State University will host jazz music event Saturday

DOVER - Delaware State University will showcase its student musicians and feature other special guests during a Jazz Under the Stars music event Saturday.

The event runs from 4:30-9:30 p.m. at the DSU Downtown Amphiteater (formerly Wesley College). It is free and open to the public.

The featured guest performers will be pianist John Robertson and vocalist Rosemary Rainey from Atlanta, Georgia, a jazz duo that will be accompanied by Nat Reeves on bass and Bernard Linnette on drums.

According to a University news release, Mr. Robertson has establish himself over the years as one the finest pianist in the southeastern region of the United States, in which he has showcased Ms. Rainey with his Atlanta-renowned trio.

Ms. Rainey is a featured recording artist who has performed in Europe and on a movie project.

The Jazz Under the Stars will also feature the following groups:

• The DSU Jazz Ensemble, an 18-member group directed by Vincent Adkins, Assistant Director of Bands.

• Shades of Blues, an all-jazz group led by keyboardist Christy Taylor, Applied Voice Adjunct at the University.

• Dr. Lorne Lee, a jazz artist from Oklahoma, who perform his music artistry on the 12-string touch guitar, which combines guitar and bass strings in one instrument.
In the event of rain, the alternate site for the concert will be

the Schwartz Center for the Arts, 226 S. State Street, Dover.
