Delaware State make it two wins in a row

DOVER — Two days after snapping its four-game losing skid, the Delaware State men’s basketball team started a winning streak.

Martaz Robinson and Alston Andrews each recorded double-doubles as the Hornets downed Morgan State, 80-58, in a MEAC contest at Memorial Hall on Monday night.

Deywilk Tavarez netted a team-high 21 points as DSU improved to 5-4 in th MEAC, 12-13 overall. Robinson, (16 points, 10 rebounds) and Andrews, (11 points, 11 rebounds) also paced the Hornets.

Delaware State, which beat the Bears for the second time this season, out-rebounded Morgan State 35-20 with 10 offensive rebounds.

The Hornets used a 13-0 run early in the game to help take control. They went up 47-25 at halftime before playing the Bears (5-4 MEAC, 9-16 overall) even in the second half.

Delaware State next travels to South Carolina State on Saturday.

WOMEN, DSU game postponed: The Delaware State women’s game with Morgan State was postponed. No reason was given for the postponement.

Drexel 61, Delaware 59: The Dragons finished the game on a 14-2 runs, scoring the last six points, to upend the Blue Hens in a CAA game on Sunday.

Rebecca Demeke led Delaware (9-15, 5-7 CAA) with 18 points against the Dragons (11-12, 6-6 CAA). Demeke hit 6-of-8 three-point shots.

Ande’a Cherisier added 13 points while Sydney Boone chipped in with a career-best eight assists.

Drexel snapped a three-game losing streak by edging the Hens for the second time this season.

College lacrosse

MEN, Delaware moves up in polls: After two convincing wins to begin the season, the Delaware men’s lacrosse team moved up two spots in all three major polls.

The Blue Hens were ranked No. 14 by the USILA, Inside Lacrosse, and USA Lacrosse Magazine, the outlets announced Monday afternoon.

A week after putting up 14 goals against Lafayette, Delaware downed St. John’s, 17-6, on Saturday.
