Delaware State has two more basketball players enter transfer portal

DOVER — The Delaware State men’s basketball team has had two more players enter the NCAA Transfer Portal.

That brings to four the number of Hornets who have put their names in the portal since DSU’s season ended on Saturday.

Forward Wesley Oba and guard Khyrie Staten entered the portal late Monday, joining guard Martaz Robinson and Jevin Muniz on the list.

There are now reported to be over 900 players in the portal. Transfers are not only looking for better playing opportunities but name-image-likeness money in the hundreds of thousands isn’t uncommon for top players.

The 6-foot-8 Oba, from England, gave DelState a presence inside as he averaged 6.2 points and 6.2 rebounds and tied for the team lead with 16 blocks. He had a season-high 15 points in a game against East Carolina and 14 rebounds in a MEAC Tournament win over North Carolina Central.

Staten played in 28 games, averaging 3.8 points. He had five points and three steals in the Hornets’ 79-66 loss to Seattle in the College Basketball Invitational Tournament on Saturday.
