HARRISONBURG, Va. — James Madison put four players in double figures and never trailed as the Dukes posted a 75-50 Colonial Athletic Association men’s basketball victory over Delaware Saturday afternoon at the JMU Convocation Center.
Ron Curry scored a game-high 17 points for JMU (10-6 CAA, 20-9 overall), which snapped a two-game losing streak. Delaware (2-14, 7-20) dropped its 11th consecutive road contest.
Anthony Mosley and Cazmon Hayes scored 11 points apiece for the Blue Hens, while Marvin King-Davis recorded 10 points and eight rebounds. Kory Holden added seven points and seven boards, while Skye Johnson came off the bench to chip in six points.
Delaware shot 39.1 percent from the field, but connected on just 10 of 23 free throws and was hurt by 18 turnovers. The Hens limited the Dukes to a 35.1 shooting percentage, including just 7 of 30 from three-point range.
“We committed 18 turnovers and missed 13 free throws, which you can’t do on the road against a good team like James Madison,” said coach Monté Ross. “I thought we did a decent job defensively, but scoring 50 points isn’t going to get it done. We have a small margin of error; Curry did a good job defensively on Holden, and we didn’t get enough contributions from other guys.”
JMU connected on six of its first eight shots from the field, and used an early seven-point run to go in front 13-4 just five minutes into the game. Delaware pulled within 19-16 on a Hayes layup but the Hens then went scoreless for over four minutes, as the Dukes used a 12-point spurt to go in front 31-16 at the 4:08 mark.
King-Davis and Mosley answered with jumpers for Delaware, but JMU hit four free throws in the final minute to take a 37-23 halftime lead over the Blue Hens.
The Dukes scored 10 consecutive points early in the second period to extend the margin to 51-27 on a breakaway slam by Brown, and led by at least 18 points the rest of the way.
JMU has won four straight games over the Hens. ... King-Davis reached the 800-point mark for his career. ... Hayes surpassed the 700-point mark in his career. ... The Dukes held a 45-37 rebounding edge. ... Delaware scored its fewest points in a CAA game this year.
