Debra Lee (Edwards) MacCannell passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 23rd, 2023. She was surrounded by her daughter, son in-law and three grandchildren. Debra was born on January 23, 1955 in Massey, MD and was the daughter of the late C. Joseph Edwards Sr. and Jean Pratt Edwards.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Wallace; sister, Cathy Jo Maloney; father, C. Joseph Edwards Sr.; and grandparents, Wright & Ella Pratt and John & Eva Edwards.
She is survived by Her mother, Jean Pratt Edwards; her daughter, Heather Bernat; son in-law, Chad Bernat; sister, Jeanne Schwaninger; brother in-law, Kurt Schwaninger; brother, C. Joseph Edwards Jr.; and grandchildren, Ian, Liam and Ella Felicity Bernat.
Debra was an honor student throughout her middle school years in Galena and High School years at Kent County High School, Maryland. After high school she worked locally for Coleman's Furniture store and then for JC Penny in Dover, DE. The remainder of her career was spent at Top City in Dover, where she and her family are forever thankful to the owners Julie and Sam Shahan, who were dear friends and supported her during her illness.
She had a lifelong love of music and art, rarely missing a Nutcracker ballet this time of year. Debra was passionate about gardening, flowers and bird watching. She loved nature and her dogs. Debra loved reading novels by Dean Koontz and watching new sci-fi movies. Debra adored her family, especially finding so much joy in her grandchildren. She had an ongoing friendship with several childhood friends, who were always there for her through her battle with cancer.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Tunnel to Towers foundation or the SPCA.
