MILFORD - David Wilkes King, of Milford, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, at Compassionate Care Hospice Center, Wilmington. He was 92. Mr. King was born Jan. 23, 1920, in Anniston, Ala., to the late William King and Leila W. King. He was a captain in the US Army Infantry, WWII. Mr. King was Vice President and managed the T. Noble Jarrell Cannery, of Goldsboro, Md., for 20 years and was the chief of Goldsboro Fire Co. He taught engineering at Del Tech Georgetown Campus for 25 years and was a perspective employer scout for his students. He was Chairman of the Delaware Valley CFO and a member of Calvary United Methodist Church for many years. He taught the young adult Sunday school class and sang in the choir. Also, he was active in Full Gospel Business Men. Mr. King enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking bread, reading, teaching and volunteer work. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bess Neese Jarrell; brother, Neil King; second wife, Agnes Dixon King; and son, Harry E. Dixon. He is survived by his daughters, Betsy LaRosa and Debby Stromwasser, both of Wilmington, Joy Dixon of Newark, Deborah Pick of Redding, Calif.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to be made to the United Calvary Methodist Church, 301 S.E. Front St., Milford, DE 19963; or Greater Milford Boys and Girls Club, 101 Delaware Veterans Blvd., Milford, DE 19963.
