Darin Christopher Thompson SEAFORD - On Saturday, November 7, 2009, home going services were held for Darin Christopher Thompson of Seaford, Delaware. Born to Christopher and Sharon Thompson on Feb. 27, 1972, Darin departed this life on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Up to and including the day of his passing, Darin was a healthy, active and vibrant man of 37 years of age who was known for his gentle smile and hearty laugh. Funeral services were held at The Community Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, Coverdale Road, in Seaford, De. Darin's pastor, Bishop Jesse E.C. Abbott of New Dimensions Ministries, Jersey Road, in Salisbury, Md. gave the eulogy. The service was a wonderful celebration of Darin's life complete with his favorite devotional songs, his loving family, a host of caring friends and colleagues, and a church family who loved him dearly. The overflow of well-wishers in attendance at the service filled the modest-sized church to capacity and extended beyond into the entryways, aisles, and dining room. Such an outpouring of love and respect gave testimony to the positive impact that Darin had on the lives of others. Darin graduated from Seaford High School in 1990 and attended Delaware Technical and Community College in Georgetown, De. While in college, Darin joined the student apprentice program at United Parcel Service (UPS) in Harrington, De. Because of his strong work ethic and dedication, he was soon offered a full-time position at UPS. During his 18 years with UPS, Darin was regarded as a valuable and trusted employee and was the recipient of numerous recognitions. Over the years, he served in a number of capacities including package delivery and sorting, express and overnight driver, and truck detailer. He was also a Certified HAZMAT Specialist. One of Darin's hobbies was photography. He loved to photograph family and friends and to edit the photos onto DVDs with coordinated music. He also enjoyed working with computers and would build them from scratch. It seemed that there was never a technical problem that he could not solve. Darin was also a wonderful chef and could frequently be found in the kitchen whipping up a delicious southern specialty. In 2006, Darin became a member of New Dimensions Ministries. Very soon after joining the fellowship, Darin enthusiastically accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord. Membership in the Men of Power men's ministry at New Dimensions was a source of great pride and enjoyment for Darin. He thoroughly enjoyed the fellowship and power through Jesus Christ that he saw displayed by true men of God in that ministry. Darin was impressed by the truth that men could be men, that they could be strong, yet still display the love and humility of Jesus Christ. He saw the example set by Bishop Abbott and by many of the men of New Dimensions. Darin also generously gave of himself by serving as an usher and as a member of the youth mentoring ministry. At the time of Darin's passing he was planning to join the church praise and worship music ministry. Darin loved his family and was always willing to lend a hand or to lend money if there was a need, run errands or he would simply show up with a surprise gift for you. He would often take his grandmother to the supermarket and tell her to put whatever she needed into the shopping cart. He knew that it made her feel so special. He would usually greet you with a hug and a smile and many times add a loving, supportive comment. He would often call his sister, Dawn, or cousins and other family members, or text them to say, "I love you," or "Praise the Lord." Darin was a faithful witness for salvation through Jesus Christ to his family and friends, and regularly invited them, or anyone who would listen, to come to church with him. Darin left a wonderful witness of the love and grace of God, love of family and of a life of integrity. He will be sadly missed by those who loved him and by those who had the opportunity to spend time in his company. Darin was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Charles Henry Savage, Sr. and by his paternal grandfather, Winifred Thompson, Sr. He is survived by his parents, Christopher and Sharon Thompson of Seaford; and by his beloved sister, Dawn Thompson of Wilmington, De. Darin leaves behind a church family that he loved and a host of caring family, friends, and colleagues. At the funeral services held on November 7, 2009, many attendees were given incorrect prayer cards featuring a poem which had not been selected by the family and which was inserted on the prayer card in error. The card implied that Darin had been ill. This information was inaccurate and inappropriate. Darin was not ill, nor was he convalescing, nor did he succumb to any form of lingering illness. Darin was strong and healthy, rarely missing a day from work, school or church. Additionally, the prayer cards listed Darin's year of birth as 1967; this is also incorrect, as Darin was born on a bright and sunny winter day in February of 1972. The family of Darin Christopher Thompson wishes to thank everyone for the numerous expressions of love, kindness, and support since his passing. Darin will remain in our hearts and thoughts forever.
