Daniels: Do Democrats really care about ending shutdown?

Posted

The answer to the question, “While Republicans and Democrats are busy pointing fingers during the government shutdown, who do you think is hurt most?” is very simple. It’s every American. Failure to govern is a monumental, and common, mistake made by our elected representatives. The simple, positive outcome was for the Democrats to stop crying about losing and to vote for the continuing resolution. Now, both sides can have a debate about the Affordable Care Act.

By the way, how can an act called the “Affordable Care Act” need subsidies? I wrote to both of our senators about this matter. From Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., I got a nice, but bland, say-nothing response. At least he addressed me by name in his response. However, from Sen. Lisa Blunt Rochester, D-Del., I received the following: “As of 12:01 AM on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, the federal government is shut down because the Republican-controlled Congress failed to pass funding legislation. I am working with my congressional colleagues to pass legislation that would restore funding to federal agencies and end the shutdown. As a result of the shutdown, my office’s communication may be delayed as we work on reopening the government. While my Delaware and Washington, DC offices may have limited capacity, we will do everything we can to serve you. I will be in touch as soon as I am able to resume regular communications.” Lisa, you are absolutely reflective of how the Democrats feel about the American voter: Democrats don’t care about you, and don’t talk to me until this problem is resolved; however, I am not going to help resolve it.
