Dagsboro man on probation arrested on drug, weapons charges

DAGSBORO – A Dagsboro man on probation faces drug and weapons charges following his arrest Friday, Jan. 25.

David Tharp, 52, was charged with Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, Possession of Ammunition by Person Prohibited, Possession with Intent to Deliver a controlled substance in a Tier 2 quantity, Criminal Contempt of a Domestic Violence Protective Order and two counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, according to Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe.

State police, assisted by Probation and Parole, arrested Tharp around 10:50 a.m. Jan. 25 at a residence in the 30000 block of Squirrel Lane.

Cpl. Jaffe said during a pre-approved administrative search at Tharp’s residence probation officers located approximately 14.49 grams of methamphetamine; drug paraphernalia; a Llama .380 semi-automatic handgun; .380 caliber ammunition and over $500 in suspected drug proceeds.

Tharp is a person prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition.  He was taken into custody without incident, arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $4,600 secured bond, Cpl. Jaffe said.
