CRISFIELD — It’s a new year and there’s a renewed emphasis to invite local residents into the Crisfield Police Department’s Citizens On Patrol program, known locally as C.O.P.S. Officers can aggressively target crime and step up patrols, but “we still need your help by reporting any and all suspicious activity in your neighborhood,” states Chief Michael Tabor.

Citizen members act as additional eyes and ears to report crime, and residents in the 21817 Zip Code area are encouraged to join the program. Once enrolled, participants are given a unique identification number which can be used in confidence when a report or observation is called in. After that, Crisfield Police “will take it from there,” the chief notes.

Reports can include many issues but some them include:

• Unusually high amounts of traffic coming and going from a residence or building, and staying for short periods of time;
• Suspicious vehicles or persons in the area;
• Overheard drug conversations about the purchase or sale of narcotics; and
• Open doors to residences or business or vacant property.

“Remember your complaint to the police is anonymous,” Chief Tabor emphasizes. “When calling please provide the dispatcher with descriptions, and any other information that will help officers locate and resolve the problem. Let’s join forces and put those who commit crime on notice. Together we can make our community a safer and better place to live.”
