WESTOVER — Somerset County Public Schools has announced that Chantal Russum, principal at Crisfield Academy and High School, will be transferred next school year to become principal of Washington Academy and High School.

Deputy Superintendent Tom Davis in an automated call May 5 advised that this is the only administrative change, and the Crisfield position “will be advertised immediately and filled as soon as possible.”

The school board hired Pamela Patterson to be principal of WAHS last summer, but three months after school started she resigned and Will Gray, a supervisor of secondary science who had been a vice principal at CAHS, was appointed as the interim principal.

He has been assisted by two vice principals, Germaine Richardson and Matthew Brady.

Ms. Russum had been a Dean of Students at Princess Anne Elementary School and along with Mr. Gray became one of two vice principals at CAHS at the start of the 2012-13 school year. When Principal James Conrow resigned in 2015 she moved up to fill the vacancy and is completing her second year in the top job.

The 1983 WHS graduate earned her teaching and administrative credentials from Salisbury University, including a master’s in educational leadership. She has been assisted for two years by Jeff Hale, who was a comprehensive special education teacher at J.M. Tawes, and is a 2003 CHS graduate.
