Claire Otterbein is the new executive director of the Crisfield Heritage Foundation.

CRISFIELD — The Crisfield Heritage Foundation will hold an open house 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, July 7 at the J. Millard Tawes Museum to introduce its new executive director and present upcoming activities including the historic Buyboat Show.

Hired to fill the position that has been vacant since June 2014 was Claire E. Otterbein of Salisbury, who is a past director of the Julia A. Purnell Museum in Snow Hill. She left that position in 2014 to become the executive director of Worcester County G.O.L.D. (Giving Other Lives Dignity) Inc.

She is responsible for managing the CHF’s operations, including financial management, fundraising and community outreach along with recruitment and retention of volunteers, special events, and coordination of education programs. She can also be contacted about private rentals of the museum meeting room.

The Chesapeake Bay Buyboat purchased the catch of watermen right on the water, and transported it to ports like Crisfield, Baltimore and other places so the watermen could keep on working. Twelve of these historic vessels will be at Somers Cove Marina one- day only and this is a free event from 1 to 5 p.m. July 29.
