GRANDY, N.C. - Connie Lee O'Neal, of Grandy, N.C., died Monday, Aug. 8, 2011, at Albemarle Hospital at the age of 62. She was preceded in death by her parents, James L. and Corinne J. Mitchell of Smyrna. Connie was a 1966 graduate of John Bassett Moore High School, Smyrna. She was a waitress in Smyrna for many years before she moved to North Carolina and made it 'home' with her many friends where she explored many careers including truck driving, dry cleaning, and still her favorite, waitressing. She enjoyed cooking and serving good food to people and loved her cook books from all areas of the country. She is survived by her sister, Wanda and husband Marvin Shorter of Seaford; a nephew and two nieces and their families, Michael and wife Jennifer Shorter of Bear with Cole, Aiden, and Leah, Jessica and husband Colin Macdonald, of Boston, Mass. with Abigail, and Emily and husband David Williams of Seaford with Bruin; and several aunts, uncles, and many cousins. Memorial Services will be 11 a.m.., Saturday, Sept. 17, at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna. The family suggests, memorial contributions be made to the Lower Currituck Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 207, Grandy, NC 27939; or to Lebanon Wesleyan Church, 1138 Sorghum Mill Rd., Dover, DE 19901. Arrangements are by Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Smyrna.
