Cluard E. Pittman

DOVER - Cluard E. Pittman passed away peacefully at home with his family on Friday, July 26, 2013 after a long illness. He was born on Jan. 12, 1923 in Shallotte, N.C. He served in the United States Army during WWII. Mr. Pittman had a variety of careers, he was Chief of Police of Shallotte, N.C. and Sheriff in Brunswick County, N.C. He had owned and operated a long distance trucking company, Eskimo Truck Lines before opening Pittman's Seaford in Dover for over 30 years retiring in 2006. He was an avid Harley Davidson rider in his younger years and enjoyed spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Ernest Pittman; sister, Dorothy Durham; grandson, Dennis W. Hutson, Jr.; and great-granddaughter, Alexia Hope McClellan. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rose Jones Pittman of Dover; son, Cluard "Beau" Pittman, Jr and his wife Wanda Hill of Dover; daughters, Linda Tosh and her husband Mark of Milford, Rose Stone and her husband Donald of Lake Park, Ga., Donna Chasteen and her husband Howard of Dover, and Brenda Hutson and her husband Dennis of Milford; sister, Joyce Robinson of Holden Beach, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. He was a hard worker, provider and loving father that will be greatly missed by his family. His family will remember his great sense of humor during his entire illness even though he was in extreme pain. Funeral services will be held at noon on Wed., July 31, 2013 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear. in lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. Dupont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
