Clifton R. Thompson, 80

HARTLY - Clifton R. Thompson, passed away Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, in the Country Rest Home in Greenwood. He was 80. He was born Feb. 28, 1928 in Hartly, son of the late Ralph W. and Catherine Melvin Thompson. Clifton was a full time farmer and a seasonal carpenter who enjoyed making beautiful handcrafted furniture for his family and friends. His many projects included grandfather clocks, roll-top desks, canopy beds, tables, and stools, along with custom cabinets. His other interests included blue grass music, working in his garden and spending time with family and friends. He served as a tax ditch commissioner in Kent County for several years, as well as, a tax ditch manager for the Tappahana Ditch. Clifton was a life time member of the Eastern Shore Blue Grass Association. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Howard Thompson. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, June McMahan Thompson; his daughters, Cindy Fox and her husband Jimmy, and Judy Cook; grandchildren, Daniel Fox, Jenna Fox, Courtney Cook, and Jarrett Cook; three brothers, Carl Thompson, Melvin Thompson, and Ray Thompson; along with several nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be given to Compassionate Care Hospice, 31038 Country Garden Blvd., Suite D-2, Dagsboro, DE 19939; or the Hartly Volunteer Fire Company, P.O.
