GEORGETOWN - Clifford W. Bunting passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 14, 2012. Clifford was born in Haverford Township, Delaware County, Pa., son of the late Charles Herbert and Mary Edith (Baker) Bunting. Clifford worked with his brother-in-law, Melvin L. Joseph, since before he had a driver's license. He continued working with Melvin after the formation of Melvin L. Joseph Construction Company, where he was a heavy equipment operator for well over 60 years, until he retired in 2006. Clifford's first piece of equipment was a shovel. He then graduated to operating dragline cranes and before he retired was operating a 235 CAT Excavator that was purchased just for him and him only. Clifford enjoyed sports but loved watching baseball, he favored no particular team, however, he favored watching morning, noon and night no matter who was playing. He even watched re-runs of games from years past. He also was a faithful watcher of NASCAR. He and his late wife Loretta were fans of Davey Allison. In later years, he was a fan of Tony Stewart. Clifford was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Loretta (Joseph) Bunting, a son, Charles Bunting; brother, Donald Bunting; and two sisters, Barbara Mitchell and Evelyn Bunting. He is survived by a son, Stanley Bunting and wife Becky, of Georgetown; two sisters, Carol Moore and husband Harry and Thelma Brittingham and husband Donald; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Shirley Short and husband Jimmy; four caregivers, Lydia "Little Girl" Stevenson, Virginia Nock, Marie Bordes and Joe Ann Adams; his cat, Smoke and numerous cousins; nieces; and nephews. A funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, August 18, 2012, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market Street, Georgetown with visitation after 11 a.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Millsboro. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Bethesda U.M. Church, 24619 Dupont Blvd., Georgetown, De 19947 or Camp Barnes, Inc., c/o Delaware State Police, PO Box 430, Dover, De 19903.
