    Clarence Elmer Barrett, Jr., affectionately known as “Mr. Bud”, of Deal Island, MD, passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield, MD. He had been a resident of Chesapeake Cove Assisted Living.
    Born in Rochester, New Hampshire on September 19, 1932, he was the son of the late Clarence Elmer Barrett, Sr. and Alice Vaughn Barrett. His wife of 58 years, Mary Jean Farrington Barrett, preceded him in death on April 27, 2011.
    Mr. Bud was a United States Navy Veteran and served during the Korean War. He worked for many years at the Pease Air Force Base in Newington, NH as a civil service electrician. Following retirement, he worked for 10 years teaching journeyman electricians.
    In retirement he and his wife moved to Chance, MD and later Deal Island, MD where he became a very dedicated and active member of Rock Creek Church in Chance. At Rock Creek Church he taught Sunday School and served as Lay Leader. He truly loved his church family.
    Mr. Bud loved sailing from a very young age and enjoyed competing in the “Little Skipjack” races during Labor Day festivities on Deal Island. He was also a gifted handyman who could fix and build anything and worked on many church projects including rebuilding the steeple. Most of all he loved his grandchildren and adored time spent with them reading “A Walk with Grandpa”.
    He is survived by his children, Deborah Hersey, Clint Barrett, James Barrett, Daniel Barrett, and Kathleen Barrett Donaldson and husband Christopher; son-in-law, Tony Tilford; grandchildren, Marybeth, Dawn, Dorothy, Erica, Jimmy, Amanda, Rachel, Audrey, Nicholas, Bryson, Keith, and Danna; two special greatgranddaughters, Sophie and Lily; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
    In addition to his parents and his wife he was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley and Barry.
    A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 1 PM at Rock Creek Church in Chance, MD. Pastor Dave Webster will officiate.
