SMYRNA - Clarence A. Johnson Jr., passed away at home, following a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family Friday, October 2, 2009. He was 80. Mr. Johnson was born October 5, 1928, in Townsend, the son of the late Clarence A. and Nellie Francis Johnson. He retired from Acme Markets in Smyrna, following 37 years of service. Mr. Johnson was a life member of Citizens Hose Company 1 in Smyrna, and a member of the Camden-Wyoming Moose Lodge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine "Kitty" Johnson; a son, Jerry Johnson; and two sisters, Edith and Frances. He is survived by a son, Richard Johnson of New Mexico; two daughters, Chris Mullen and her husband Gene of Smyrna, and Debbie Shaner and her husband Gene of Pinellas Park, Fla.; a brother, Vernon Johnson and his wife Yasmith of Smyrna; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and his special friend, Marie Vincent of Dover. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 9, 2009, in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call one hour prior to the services. Burial will be private. A luncheon to celebrate Clarence's life will follow at the Smyrna Fire Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901. Condolence letters may be sent by visiting www.fariesfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are by Faries Funeral Directors and Crematorium Inc., 29 S. Main St., Smyrna.
