SALISBURY — Salisbury’s Public Art Committee has selected four finalists for the first Salisbury Prize public art project, and the committee is now asking for public feedback.
The public art project will be located in the Riverwalk Games Park in Downtown Salisbury. The winner will receive a $10,000 award and an additional stipend of up to $5,000 in reimbursement for materials.
To provide public feedback on the four finalists, visit www.bit.ly/SalisburyPrize and click on “Share your input here.” The four finalists are a turtle mosaic sculpture, a stainless steel stump and sprout sculpture, a pelican sculpture and Salisbury murals on the storage shed at the location. Feedback will be accepted through April 23.
“We were impressed by the submissions, and it’s important to get public feedback before a winner is selected,” said Allen Swiger, director of Salisbury’s Arts, Business and Culture Department. “Any of these would be a great addition to Riverwalk Games Park.”
The winning design will be announced May 1. Then, the artist or group will have from June 1-Dec. 1 to complete the project.
The Salisbury Prize follows last fall’s unveiling of the Salisbury Public Art Master Plan. Todd W. Bressi, a public art planning consultant, led the process, which included community input. This is the first major initiative of the Public Art Committee, formed in 2023.
