Christian John Plack Sr.

On August 4, 2024 Christian John Plack, Sr., age 69, ran into the open arms of Jesus while being surrounded by his family.
Mr. Plack was born on November 20, 1954 in Baltimore, MD to the late William and Dorothy Plack.
His family moved to Milford in 1963 and he graduated Milford High School in 1972.
Chris attended the Delaware State Police Training Academy and graduated in the 11th Municipal Class of 1977. He also attended the FBI National Academy, Criminal Justice Education, Session #181, in 1995 and received an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice in 1996.
Mr. Plack began his career in law enforcement as a Patrol Officer for the Seaford Police Department from 1976 to 1980. He transferred to the Milford Police Department in 1980 and stayed there until he retired as a Captain in 2007.
During his time with the Milford Police Department he was awarded the Milford Elks Lodge "Outstanding Policeman of the Year" in 1984 and again in 1996. He organized the Volunteer Senior Patrol Unit in 1997, which won the Governor's outstanding volunteer award. He also initiated the installation of Downtown Milford video surveillance camera project in 2002. Chris received the Life Saving Medal on July 25, 1995 for performing CPR on his 2 year old niece, Cara, who had fallen into a pool. For his act of heroism, he was recognized by then Senator Joe Biden.
After 32 years of law enforcement Chris was then appointed to the Kent County Justice of the Peace by Governor Ruth Ann Minner, and served as Magistrate Judge at Court 7 in Dover from 2007 to 2010.
He was the Founder and Past President of the Kent – Sussex Chapter of the Sunshine Foundation, which helped many terminally ill children to fulfill their dreams with the funds raised by the community.
God gave Chris a servant's heart which he used to help his fellow man. His most recent service was with Crisis Response International (CRI). He traveled to numerous state side hurricane and tornado relief sites. His greatest joy was to assist in the Ukraine devastation from the war and the earthquake catastrophe in Turkey. His final deployment was to Cuba where he helped to build a church.
Chris loved to spend time laughing and playing practical jokes with his family and friends. He enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, biking, kayaking, metal detecting and the beach.
He was an avid Civil War re-enactor with the Confederate 18th Virginia, where he could pursue his love for history and guns.
Chris and his wife, Deborah, attended Destiny Christian Church for 37 years, and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
He is also survived by his daughter, Andrea Plack and her fiancé Brian Brittingham, his son, Christian Plack, Jr. and his wife Jessica, his grandsons, Aidan, Owen, Alex, and Bodhi, his aunt, Harriett Purnell ("Trouble"), his brother, William F. Plack, III and his wife Christine, his sister Dauna Dean and her husband Zack, along with multiple nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Matthew and his parents.
A memorial service will be held at the Lighthouse Christian Center, 347 Calvary Road, Milford, DE on Thursday 8/22 at 12 noon. Friends may gather starting at 11AM.
