Chester Lee Smith, 65

FELTON - Chester Lee Smith, of Felton, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, in the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. He was 65. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1961 and served during the Vietnam War. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1983 as a Master Sergeant. After serving his country, Chester was a prison correction officer for the State of Delaware for nine years. He was a member of the American Legion in Dover. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lelon and Alice Benson Smith. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kum "Nancy" Smith; two brothers, Martin E. Smith and his wife Elsie of Chaffee, N.Y., Steven E. Smith and his wife Patricia of Felton; three nieces, Alice Smith of Arcade, N.Y., Michele Smith of Chaffee, N.Y. and Lisa Foster of Hamburg, N.Y. Funeral Services will be held noon Friday in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, Main St., Felton, where friends may call Thursday night from 6 to 8 pm. Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
