SMYRNA - Cheryl Anne Skinner, of Smyrna, died on Monday, July 18, 2011, at Christiana Hospital, Newark. Cheryl was a warrior who fought a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was 58. Mrs. Skinner was born Feb. 20, 1953, in Bethesda, Md., the daughter of Lester Thompson of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Robert and Barbara Rider of Rehoboth Beach. For many years, she managed the family business with her husband; Skinner's Plumbing and Iron Works, LLC. She was artistic and enjoyed making and selling crafts. She loved to tend to her garden. She especially enjoyed taking care of her children and family. She was preceded in death by a son, Lennon Hamilton. She is survived by her loving husband of over 25 years, John Michael Skinner; sons, John Michael Skinner, II and his fiancée, Tasha Cooper, and Ian Matthew Skinner, all of Smyrna; five sisters, Candace Dunning and her husband Jerry of Smyrna, Robin Taylor and her fiancée, Steve Daugherty of Seaford, Beth Stone of Buffalo, N.Y., Wendy Heyd and her husband Greg of Wailuku, Hawaii, and Terry Zittel and her husband Bill of Eden, N.Y.; a brother, Rob Rider, Jr. and his wife Susan of Seaford; nieces and nephews, Candace Louder, Josh Dunning, Brandon Dunning, Adam Chase, Falon Chase, Stewart Emmett; a sister-in-law, Betty Bishop; and many other cousins, nieces and nephews. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday evening, July 20, 2011, from 7 to 9 p.m., in the Faries Funeral Chapel located at 29 South Main Street, Smyrna. Memorial services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, July 21, 2011, in the First Presbyterian Church of Smyrna, 118 West Commerce St., Smyrna. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Helen Graham Cancer Center, 4701 Ogletown-Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713.
